BIG TIME CHARLIE

Former Wickersley Youth player Charlie Barker made his Charlton Athletic debut lastnight in the EFL trophy away against AFC Wimbledon.

The 17 year old came through the Wickersley Youth Academy playing in chairman Len Curtis’s team, which has produced several young players at professional academies.

Barker drew high praise from Charlton manager Lee Bowyer: “As a positive I thought young Barker was outstanding, outstanding. He didn’t put a foot wrong all night, in possession and out of possession. He defended properly when crosses came in, goal kicks, competing and fighting. I would say he was the biggest positive.”

The club is very proud of the youngster and we hope he continues to develop into a first team regular.

Well done Charlie.
